There's a value in having secrets.
Creatures like myself, like Claire, like Zoe, we wouldn't be ourselves without them. But Peter Russo, on the other hand, he's trapped by his secrets. What I'm trying to do is give him the opportunity to set himself free.

All tyrants suffered dangerously from the Herostratic impulse, Burckhardt believed, referring to Herostratus the Ephesian who set fire to the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, destroying that iconic symbol of culture for no better reason than the wish that his name should go down in history to the end of time.

He was talking about the "narrative" or the life-story that we tell ourselves about us.
Sometimes we try to convince ourselves of some "role" or persona and we lie to ourselves that this is our true identity.
I noticed this for example in med students (though I suspect it happens in any minutely prestigious occupation), since they build their whole life narrative around the idea that they are "doctors."
You can notice it even in depression: people sometimes choose to stay depressed because it has become a part of what they think defines them.

Ours is the age of hero-manufacturing:
Everyone wants to be a hero, no matter how unheroic they really are. So we have made dragons of all sizes (even the size of lizards and flies) for anyone to slay and become a hero.
