Reading sometimes feels like excavation: I read because I'm looking for my ideas, better articulated.

Which is a really strange idea if you are someone who believes that knowledge is a "public property" and "wisdom" can be taught to everyone.
It isn’t absurd, e.g., to believe that the age of science and technology is the beginning of the end for humanity; that the idea of great progress is a delusion, along with the idea that the truth will ultimately be known; that there is nothing good or desirable about scientific knowledge and that mankind, in seeking it, is falling into a trap. It is by no means obvious that this is not how things are.

Knowing a lot of big words and sounding quotes is not an indication of how smart you are. Because you also have to know how to actually use them.
Usually, it's an indication that you're trying to conceal your superficiality with "depth," or as Nietzsche would love to say "you want to muddle the water to make it look deep."

That's what it means to be yourself: to do what suits you, and what you can perform best. If you are a so-called "simple" person—as people would sometimes describe others as if it were a curse—then be a simple person. No need to wear a shoe that doesn't fit you. It'll only look funny.
