‏طَلب "همام" من أمير المؤمنين أن يصف له المتقين فكان من جوابه :

(إن أسْتَصْعَبَتْ عَلَيْهِ نَفْسُهُ فِيمَا تَكْرَهُ ، لَمْ يُعْطِهَا سُؤْلَهَا فِيمَا تُحِبُّ ،
قُرَّةُ عَيْنِهِ فِيمَا لاَ يَزُولُ ، وَزَهَادَتُهُ فِيمَا لاَ يَبْقَى ، يَمْزِجُ الْحِلْمَ بِالْعِلْمِ ، وَالْقَوْلَ بِالْعَمَلِ ).

وَعِبَادُ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الَّذِينَ يَمْشُونَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ هَوْنًا وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ الْجَاهِلُونَ قَالُوا سَلَامًا

A person's right to be considered a 'genius' by posterity is influenced by quite irrelevant factors; he is more likely to be called a 'genius' if he behaves oddly, dies young or very old, has episodes of madness, is psychopathic in his relations with others, disregards normal restrictions, and generally lives up to the stereotype of genius people have in their minds. If genius, as we have agreed, is a social creation, we should not wonder if quite irrelevant criteria slip in!
