Everywhere "pessimism" is discussed, and the question is debated whether pessimism or optimism is right, as if there must be answers to that.

One fails to see, although it could hardly be more obvious, that pessimism is not a problem but a symptom, that the name should be replaced by "nihilism".
The question whether not-to-be is better than to be is itself a disease, a sign of decline... The nihilistic movement is the expression of physiological decadence.

هناك في كلّ مكانٍ نقاشٌ حول "التشاؤم،" والسؤال يُطرَح حول ما إذا كان التشاؤم أو التفاؤل هو الأفضل، كما لو أنّه يجب أنْ يوجد جواب لمثل هكذا سؤال.

الأمرُ الذي يَفشلُ المرءُ في رؤيته، رغم وضوحه الشديد، هو أنّ التشاؤم ليس مشكلةً بل عارضًا لمشكلة، وأنّ الإسم يجب أنْ يُستبدَل بـ "العدمية".
فالتساؤل حول ما إذا كان من الأفضل للمرء أنْ يوجَد أو ألّا يوجَد هو بحد ذاته مرضٌ وعلامةٌ على الإنحدار... الحركة العدمية هي تعبيرٌ عن إنحطاطٍ فزيولوجي (جسدي).

This is usually in the context of lymphoma staging. But this constellation of symptoms can appear in other diseases.

سُمِّي العَقْلُ عَقْلًا لأَنه يَعْقِل صاحبَه عن التَّوَرُّط في المَهالِك، أَي يَحْبِسه. وهوَ ما يُقابِلُ الغَريزةَ التي لا اختيارَ لها. فَمَصدَرُه "عَقَلَ" أيْ حَبَسَ وأمسَكَ، ومِنه "مُعتَقَل" و "عِقال".
