People stop believing in something and condemn it as a "superstition", just to replace it with another superstition.
We repeat the same pattern but with different elements.

المتنبي جان من الكوفة ووالده جان سقّاء يبيع الماء، لهذا الشاعر هجاه بأنّه حينًا يبيع الماء في الكوفة وحينًا يبيع ماءَ وجهه

غالبًا المتنبي جان يحاول يخفي أُصول عائلته المتواضعة، لأنه رغم كل قصائد الفخر مالته وتمكّنه من الشعر، إلا أنّه ما ذكر لا أبوه ولا نسبه بقصائده ولا افتخر بيهم، ولما ذكرهم كال:

لا بقَوْمي شَرُفْتُ بل شَرُفُوا بي 
وَبنَفْسِي فَخَرْتُ لا بجُدودِي
