داء السكّري لدى الحوامل (GDM) يصير ببساطة لما الجنين يتعارك وية الأُم على السكّر بالدم.
أثناء الحمل، أكو نوع من التوازن الهش بين متطلبات الجنين والأُم من المواد الغذائية والطاقة والسكر. أحيانًا يضطرب هذا التوازن لصالح الجنين مثلما يصير بسكّري الحوامل.
داء السكّري لدى الحوامل (Gestational DM) يصير لما المرأة الحامل تتطور عدها مقاومة للإنسولين (الإنسولين يساعد الجسم على استخدام السكر) بالتالي تزيد نسبة السكر بالدم، وبالتالي تُصاب بالسكّري.
هالشي يصير لأن الجنين يحاول يستغل الأُم حتى يحصل أكبر قدر ممكن من السكر من الدم؛ ببساطة الجنين يرث مجموعة جينات تجعله يفرز بروتين إسمه *hPL من المشيمة. هذا البروتين وظيفته هي أن يزيد مقاومة الإنسولين لدى الأُم (لهذا يسبب السكري لدى الحوامل) وبالنتيجة يقل إستخدام الأُم للسكر وتزيد نسبته بالدم حتى توصل كمية أكبر منه للجنين، وبنفس الوقت يحفز هدم الأنسجة الدهنية لدى الأُم حتى تزيد نسبة السكر بعد أكثر حتى يستفاد منها الجنين.
بالعادة المرأة الحامل تكدر تقاوم هاي الأشياء كلها بدرجة معينة، لكن بعض النساء—ولأسباب عدة—يفشلن بمقاومة الطفيلي اللي نسميه الجنين وبالنتيجة يصير عدهن داء السكري.
