فالمشكلة هي مو أنّ علم النفس كله علم كاذب... الأمراض النفسية موجودة وموثقة بدراسات عصبية وإحصائية وجينية.
المشكلة هي أنّ طريقة التشخيص عند الأطباء النفسيين تتضمن نسبة خطأ جبيرة بحيث من الممكن أنْ ينطون تشخيص خاطئ.

In recent articles, Meehl and the social scientists David Faust and Robyn Dawes have reviewed more than a hundred studies comparing computers or statistical formulas with human judgment in predicting everything from the likelihood that a company will go bankrupt to the life expectancy of liver-disease patients. In virtually all cases, statistical thinking equaled or surpassed human judgment. You might think that a human being and a computer working together would make the best decisions. But, as the researchers point out, this claim makes little sense. If opinions agree, no matter. If they disagree, the studies show that you’re better off sticking with the computer’s judgment.

تنتشر ظاهرة "الرجل-الطفل" بشدّة في عصرنا الحالي. يرجع سبب هذا إلى إنحدار قيمة العائلة التقليدية وانعدام طقوس البلوغ*، كما أن الكثير من الأولاد صاروا يفتقرون لمثل أعلى يبيّن لهم كيف يكونون رجالًا، لذا يدخلون مرحلة البلوغ وهم عالقون فيما سماه روبرت مور ودوغلاس جيليت "عقلية الأولاد"

*طقوس البلوغ: هي طقوس موجودة بهواي ثقافات وديانات، يقوم بيها الطفل وعائلته (غالبًا الذكور الكبار منهم) لما يوصل لمرحلة البلوغ... الفكرة من طقوس البلوغ هي أنّها تمثل "تنبيه" للطفل أو علامة على أنه صار رجل... وطقوس البلوغ المقصودة هنا هي بشكل رمزي.
