Ancient Greeks had a part of the house exclusively made for women to dwell in, usually the innermost part of the house, farthest from the street. It was called Gynaeceum (from Greek: γυναικεία, gynaikeia).
They also had another part of the house specifically made for men. They called it Andron (from Greek: ἀνδρών, andrōn), and it is usually where a symposium (drinking party) would take place.
