Part of the beauty (and malice) of emotions is their protean nature. One emotion can assume the shape of another; fear assuming the shape of rage, love assuming the shape of grief, and insecurity assuming the shape of narcissism.

Many of the Freudian coping mechanisms are merely emotions assuming the identity of other emotions. One healthy mechanism is sublimation: when a negative emotion becomes the drive for a higher emotion; insecurity becoming assiduousness, fear becoming courage, grief becoming acceptance. Unhealthy mechanisms, on the other hand, vest negative emotions that distress with the mask of others that assure and elevate the ego: guilt becoming self-righteousness (like in projection).

The 5 stages of grief are an example: the confrontation with grief breeds denial as a reaction. Denial then morphes itself into anger, followed by bargaining (which is grief shyly showing its true face), then the confrontation with grief naked produces depression, and finally, hopefully, acceptance.

Patients usually only report the symptoms that capture their attention or disrupt their life. They don't report the most important nor the most medically relevant ones. Patients typically report pain, nausea, itching, vertigo, fatigue more than heartburn, a simple rash or discoloration, forgetfulness, "some stiffness" in the morning, or sleep disturbances.

فإنت تنطيه PPI وتنسى أنّ الربط مالته ممكن يكون مجرد مصادفة، وأكو احتمالية أعراضه تدل على MI.

المرضى عادةً يكلولك فقط الأشياء اللي يعتقدون أنها مهمة. ويكلولك فقط عن اللي يعتقدون أنه سبب الأعراض. نص الوقت اعتقادهم غلط.

Social media is an environment where this tyranny of the collective can be experienced in its extreme, almost pure, form. It's the presentation of oneself; one's identity, opinions, ideas, and life to the public to evaluate, judge, criticize, and scrutinize. No rule exists¹, and no judgement prevails other than those of the masses.

The cancel culture is an expected product of such environment, it's close to what Tocqueville called 'the tyranny of the majority' since any sufficiently large number of people being discontented with you is enough to excummunicate, exile, and "cancel" you from the public. No higher principle exists, no greater cause, since what rules this public square and marketplace is mood, vibe, and personal feeling, not even a single thought exists here. It's the triumph of pathos over logos.

والسُّلُوُّ في التجربةِ الجميلة ينقسم قسمين: سلوٌّ طبيعي، وهو المسمى بالنسيان، يَخلو به القلب، ويفرغ به البال، ويكون الإنسان كأنّه لَمْ يُحِب قط. وهذا القسم ربما لحق صاحبه الذم لأنه حادث عن أخلاق مذمومة، وعن أسباب غيرِ موجبةٍ استحقاقَ النسيان وربما لم تلحقه اللائمة لعذر صحيح.

والثاني سلو تَطَبُّعي، قَهرُ النفس، وهو المسمّى بالتّصبر، فترى المرءَ يُظهر التجلد وفي قلبه أشدُّ لدغًا من وخز الإشْفَى، ولكنه يَرى بعضَ الشرِّ أهوَنَ من بعض. وهذا قسم لا يُذَمُّ آتِيه، ولا يُلام فاعله؛ لأنه لا يَحدث إلا عن عظيمة، ولا يقع إلا عن فادحة؛ إما لسببٍ لا يَصبِرُ على مِثلِه الأحرار، وإما لِخَطبٍ لا مَرَدّ له تَجري به الأقدار. وكفاكَ من الموصوف به أنه ليس بِناسٍ لكنه ذاكِر، وذو حنينٍ واقفٌ على العهد، ومُتَجَرِّعٌ مرارات الصبر، والفرق العاميّ بين المتصبر والناسي أنك ترى المتصبر وإنْ أبدى غايةَ الجَلَد، وأظهرَ سَبَّ محبوبه والتحمل عليه، يحتمل ذلك من غيره. وفي ذلك أقول:

دَعوني وسَبِّي للحبيبِ فإنّني
وإنْ كنتُ أُبدي الهَجرَ لستُ مُعادِيَا
ولكنّ سَبِّي للحبيبِ كَقَولِهم
أجادَ فَلَقّاهُ الإلهُ الدّواهيا

السُّلُوّ والسُّلوان: هو النسيان؛ إذا نَسِيَ ذِكرَ من يحب وذَهِلَ عنه.
