The modern obsession with work exceeds the limits of social pressures and life necessities. Human beings have internalized a new religious feeling of guilt that associates their 'efficiency' with their moral uprightness. Man's feeling of guilt has migrated from the temples to economic charts and schedules. I have never encountered a city dweller whose conscience escapes this invisible Calvinist cage.
وسألَ العباسُ بن عبد المطلب عمرَ بن الخطاب عن أشْعَرِ الناس، فقال: «امرؤُ القيسِ سابِقُهم، خَسَفَ لهم عَينَ الشِّعر، فافتَقَرَ عن معانٍ عُورٍ أصَحَّ بَصَر»
