عن سويد بن الحارث الأزدي قال: وفدتُ سابعَ سبعةٍ من قومي على رسول الله (ص) فلمّا دخلنا عليه وكلّمناه، فأعجبه ما رأى من سِمَتِنا وزيّنا فقال: "ما أنتم؟" قلنا: مؤمنون. فتبسّم رسول الله (ص) وقال: "إنّ لكل قولٍ حقيقة، فما حقيقةُ قولكم وإيمانكم؟" قال سويد، قلنا: خمس عشرة خصلة؛ خَمسٌ منها أمَرَتنا بها رسلك أنْ نؤمن بها، وخَمسٌ أمَرتَنا أنْ نعمل بها، وخَمسٌ تَخَلّقنا بها في الجاهلية، فنحن عليها إلا أنْ تكره منها شيئًا. فقال رسول الله (ص): "ما الخمسة التي أمَرَتكم بها رسلي أنْ تؤمنوا بها؟" قلنا: أمرَتنا أنْ نؤمن بالله وملائكته وكتبه ورسله والبعث بعد الموت. قال: "وما الخمسةُ التي أمرتُكم أنْ تعملوا بها؟" قلنا: أمرتَنا أنْ نقول لا إله إلا الله ونقيم الصلاة ونؤتي الزكاة ونصوم رمضان ونحجّ البيت مَن استطاع إليه سبيلا. فقال: "وما الخمسةُ التي تَخَلّقتُم بها في الجاهلية؟" قالوا: الشكرُ عند الرخاء والصبرُ عند البلاء والرضا بمُرّ القضاء والصدق في مواطن اللقاء وتركُ الشماتة بالأعداء. فقال رسول الله (ص): "حكماءٌ علماء كادوا مِن فِقهِهم أنْ يكونوا أنبياء." ثم قال: "وأنا أزيدُكم خمسًا فتتمّ لكم عشرون خصلة؛ إنْ كنتم كما تقولون فلا تَجمعوا ما لا تأكلون ولا تَبنوا ما لا تَسكنون ولا تُنافِسوا في شيء أنتم عنه غدًا زائلون واتّقوا الله الذي إليه تُرجَعون وعليه تُعرَضون وارغبوا فيما عليه تقدمون وفيه تخلدون."

The 9th edition of the WHO international classification of diseases has grown to distinguish more than 13,000 different diseases, syndromes, and types of injury—more than 13,000 different ways, in other words, that the body can fail.
And, for nearly all of them, science has given us things we can do to help. If we cannot cure the disease, then we can usually reduce the harm and misery it causes. But for each condition the steps are different and they are almost never simple. Clinicians now have at their disposal some 6000 drugs and 4000 medical and surgical procedures, each with different requirements, risks, and considerations. It is a lot to get right.
