Love is mystical and makes life more mystical.

That's why any scientific description of love feels poor and fails to describe the essence of it even though it is "scientifically" legitimate and complete; because love is a human experience and can only be approached poetically, literarily, and experientially. Science can explain the endorphins and dopamine surge during intimate physical contact, but it can't capture the experience, the feeling, of a woman's arms embracing you by the neck or the touch of her hands on your face. This is what is mystical.

Science describes thermodynamics and weather, but it can never capture the warmth of a winter sun or the fresh cold breeze of summer nights. Not because science did not "discover" these things yet, but because these things lie outside the domain and scope of science.

First, the paths lead you away from the daily and the mundane. Midway you become isolated and you see the valey of life "from the top of the mountain" like an indifferent spectator, and you think you found the treasure of truth and ultimate knowledge. Then you descend back into the daily and the mundane, realizing that true wisdom was never divorced from the normal, typical life, and that the true tragicomedy of life is in the here and now, down in the valley, not on top of bitterly cold mountaintops.

Being a spectator only gives you knowledge from the outside. It's a superficial acquaintance. You have to go in, to know life by the heart, and "take it by the neck" as Robert Frost said. You must dissect it and be dissected alike.

It's funny. When you date someone, it's like you're taking one long course in who that person is, and then when you break up, all that stuff becomes useless. It's the emotional equivalent of an English degree.
