القدرة على اللعب مميزة كلش لأن اللعب هو "لهو بلا هدف" ويتطلب درجة مو قليلة من الوعي. على ما يبدو، الأخطبوطات، رغم غرابتها وتركيب دماغها المختلف تمامًا، إلا أنها غالبًا تمتلك نوع ودرجة من الوعي مشابه إلنا.

هذا الوعي غالبًا مختلف كلش عن الوعي البشري. إحنة دماغنا براسنا، بينما الأخطبوط دماغه متوزع بكل جسمه. تلكاه—إذا يفكر—ما يفكر براسه بس، بل بجسمه كله. حاول تتخيل شلون شكل العالم بالنسبة لمخلوق يفكر برجله، وما عنده عمود فقري أو شكل ثابت (الأخطبوط ينتمي للرخويات، اللي همة حرفيًا راخين لدرجة ممكن يتّخذون أي شكل ويتحركون بأي طريقة ممكنة).

المهم، الفلاسفة تخبلوا من عرفوا هالسالفة، لأن يعتبروها فرصة مهمة كلش لدراسة الوعي وشلون ممكن كائن مختلف عنا لهالدرجة يكون واعي بنفسه لهالدرجة.

+ They have blue blood

Vertebrates' blood is red because it contains hemoglobin (protein + iron). Invertebrates' blood contains hemocyanin (protein + copper) which makes it colorless when deoxygenated and blue when oxygenated.

Horseshoe crabs also have blue blood

Their blood is very important for vaccine production because it's used in a test called LAL to detect the presence of endotoxins in vaccines and medical equipment.

Horseshoe blood contains amebocytes (like our white blood cells). Once these amebocytes detect endotoxins, they encapsulate them and form a gel clot around them. That's basically how the LAL test works; if you add horseshoe blood to your vaccine and it forms gel, then it's contaminated.
