There is another aspect of man’s being which is the crucial one in psychotherapy as contrasted with other treatments. It's an irony of human progress that whenever we believe we are about to solve all existing problems, new problems arise. This is because new knowledge entails new questions and inquiries. New technology creates new needs and new problems.

Since the efficiency of any real-life machine is always less than 100%¹, this means that there's always a certain level of inefficiency. Therefore, there are always new problems to be solved with every new technology.

في وقتٍ ما، العِلوم البشرية جانت ممزوجة بجُرعة معقولة من التواضع اللي يجعلنا ندرك مكانتنا الحقيقية بالوجود. الآن، العِلم صار يُستَغَل أكثر لتغذية الغرور البشري وإقناعنا بكوننا آلهة تمشي على الأرض وتُخضِع الطبيعة لرغباتها.
أكدر أتفهم هالشي، خاصةً أننا خلال قرن واحد سافرنا للفضاء ووصلنا للقمر (أكثر من مرة) وفجّرنا الذرات وخلقنا شبكة إتصالات تمتد حول الكوكب كله.

بالعودة للموضوع الأساسي، اللي هو الطب:
يُمكن للشخص أنْ يجادل بأنّ التقدم الطبي ربما زيّد معاناة الناس بدرجة أو بأُخرى. الأمراض الوراثية والخَلقية اللي جان الفرد يموت بيها وعمره 10 سنين، بفضل الطب صار المريض ينجو لحد الـ 50 حتى. هالشي تكدر تعتبره إنتصار صغير للبشرية ضد الموت، أو تكدر تعتبره إطالة غير مبررة لحياة من المعاناة والألم.
أضِف إلى أنّ علاجنا لبعض الأمراض أحيانًا يؤدي لظهور أمراض أُخرى ما جنة حاسبيلها حساب.
