Learning about ECG interpretation from books such as The ECG Made Easy or The ECG in Practice is fine as far as it goes, but it never goes far enough. As with most of medicine there is no substitute for experience, and to make the best use of the ECG there is no substitute for reviewing large numbers of them. ECGs need to be interpreted in the context of the patient from whom they were recorded. You need to learn to appreciate the variations of normality and of the patterns associated with different diseases.

On the pathology of meaninglessness

The times we feel least nihilistic are when we are busy and actively involved with our daily lives. While the times we feel the most nihilistic are, ironically, when we have an excess of free time.
This is because, to have a free time means to have no pressing responsibilities: there is no "need" to do anything for the maintenance of your life. Do nothing and it will still go on undisturbed as if on autopilot. In other words: you, yourself (the pilot), become unnecessary for the continuation of your own life. You turn from an active creator of the happenings of your life, into a passive spectator. Like a viewer watching a TV show whose events unfold on their own on the screen without his interference.
On the other hand, being busy implies being actively involved in the events of our lives. This means that we are active creators of these events. Therefore we find ourselves engrossed in a context (social, personal, political,...etc), and given a back story, and a goal ahead. Everything we do becomes part of the bigger story which is unfolding towards its conclusion. It might be a bad story, or a tragic one, and we're mostly dissatisfied with it, but at least it gives a coherent structure in which the happenings of our everyday life occur and become sentences and pages of the story of our life.

Free-time, on the other hand, means we are "freed" from the context of our lives, and now floating in the formless world of meaninglessness and incoherence. It is not a bad story, it's the lack of the story whatsoever. There is no back story or structure inside which the events of our lives happen, there is nothing to be expected. It's a blank page.

Some comments by Murtadha:
Some people may find comfort and meaning in a structured life with clear expectations and routines, while others may feel stifled and prefer a more open-ended approach. The absence of structure in free-time does not necessarily mean (or lead to) that life is meaningless or lacking in purpose.

Instead, free-time can be an opportunity to reflect, recharge, and explore new interests and activities. A blank page can also be seen as an opportunity to create and shape one's own story, rather than simply being a void of meaning.
