There is a saying about surgeons, meant as a reproof: “Sometimes wrong; never in doubt.” But this seemed to me their strength. Every day, surgeons are faced with uncertainties. Information is inadequate; the science is ambiguous; one’s knowledge and abilities are never perfect. Even with the simplest operation, it cannot be taken for granted that a patient will come through better off—or even alive.

Language and words are inherently ambiguous. Even a common word will have a slightly different qualia¹, or perception, by different people. This is because words are tinted with our personal memories, emotions and past experiences.

This inherent obscurity of words is what makes poetry and creative writing possible. Because these works describe things and situations but not totally: they leave a room for free interpretation, just enough space for us to fill it with our own fantasies, feelings and memories. So eventually, we become co-authors for that beautiful poem written a hundred years ago, and we feel as if our personal experience is what provided the inspiration for that lovely short story (even though it was written before we were even born). The poet and the author provide the stage (the poem, the story) and we orchestrate a play with actors from our own personal imagination, memories, and emotions on that stage.

بوحدة من الدراسات بالفئران، وجدوا العلماء انه اكو انتقال عرضي للجينات Horizental gene transfer من خلايا المضيف للدودة كشفوه باختبارات الـ PCR ، الجينات المسؤولة عن تشفير بروتينات الـ MHC class I والي هو بروتين يتواجد على اسطح خلايا الجسم، تميزه الخلايا المناعية حتى ما تهاجم اي خلية جسمية على انها جسم غريب.
فهذي الدودة بآلية معينة تنقل الجينات وتعبر عن هذه البروتينات لنفسها، بحيث الـ tegument (الجدار الخارجي) مالتها تحوي بروتين الـ MHC I ، بهالحالة الجهاز المناعي بصعوبة يتعرف عليها ويهاجمها واصابتها تستمر مدة أطول بالجسم.

طفيلي البلهارسيا حرفيًا يلبس camouflage مثل القناصين

عائلة نباتات الـ birthwort هي نباتات مشهورة بالطب الشعبي وطب الأعشاب من آلاف السنين. الأوروبيين مثلًا، من العصور القديمة جانوا يعتقدون أنّها تسهل عملية الولادة (ولهذا سمّوها birthwort)، والصينيين ما زالوا لليوم يستخدموها بالطب التقليدي.

المشكلة هي أنّ نباتات هاي العائلة تحتوي على مركبات مثل الـ aristolochic acid اللي هو مادة مسرطِنة carcinogenic وتسمم الكِلية nephrotoxic وصارت هواي حالات فشل كلوي بسبب إستخدام هاي النباتات سواءً عمدًا بصفتها علاجات، أو من غير قصد.

مرات يتم الإبلاغ عن حالات فشل كلوي وسرطان المثانة والمجاري البولية بسبب إستخدام هاي النباتات بصفتها أعشاب "علاجية" من الطب الصيني. الفشل الكلوي الناتج من هيج حالات يسموه "Chinese herb nephropathy"
