أكو مواد إسمهن beta-carbolines اذا استهلكوهن البشر فممكن يحفزن الجهاز العصبي ويسببن توتر، وإذا الجرعات عالية، ممكن توصل للـ convulsions.

من بين هالمواد أكو مادة إسمها Harmine نلكاها ببذور الحرمل (Paganum harmala) اللي يطكطكوه علمود الحسد والعين. هالمادة الها نفس تأثير الـ MAOI (نوع من مضادات الاكتئاب).

+ أكو مواد ثانية بالحرمل ممكن تسبب الإجهاض للبشر والحيوانات. لهذا يعتبر هالنبات من النباتات الضارة بمراعي الحيوانات.
