For Montaigne, life is an art. It’s a process of intuition, of discovery, of contemplation and finding pleasure in the journey.

I have an idea:

Imagine if you time-traveled to 1800's Paris and tried to sell self-help books there, what will happen?
Will you succeed, or fail miserably?

وتبدأ عمليةُ النقد أو هَدْم التضاريس، ثم ترى الحِذْقَ واليقظة في استخراجِ رسيسِ الصوابِ من تحتِ أنقاضِ الخطَأ.
وهكذا تجدُ المراجعة الدائمةَ هي التي تتولَّد منها المعرفة، وهذا لا يوجدُ إلا إذا عكَفَ الثاني على عِلم الأول، واستخرَجَ منه صافياتِ الصَّوابِ وخافياتِ الخطأ.
وكان علماؤُنا يرون أن العالمَ لا يكونُ عالمًا إلا إذا أَخَذ وتَرَك، ورَدَّ ورُدّ عليه، وأَخَذ وأُخِذ عليه، يَعني شارك وكان ذا عقلٍ قادر على الانتقاد، وقادرِ أيضًا على استخراجِ صوابٍ. وقدرتُه على هَدْم الضعيفِ تُساوي قدرتَه على بناءِ القَوِي، وهذا هو طريقُ العِلم".
