A story is told about the violinist Itzhak Perlman. After one of his concerts, an admiring concertgoer said to him, “I would give my life to play like that.”
To which Perlman replied, “I did.”

Each morning, Perlman drags himself out of bed at 5:15. After a shower and breakfast, he begins his four-and-a-half-hour morning practice. He takes a lunch and an exercise session, then launches his afternoon practice for another four and a half hours.
