أكبر كائن حي على الأرض -أو تحت الأرض للدقة- هو شبكة من الفطريات عبارة عن كائن حي واحد من نوع (الفطر العسلي armillaria gallica) يمتد على مساحة 9.65 كم٢ في ولاية أوريغون الأميركية (blue mountains, Oregon) يبلغ عمر هذا الكائن الفطري ما يقارب 8500 سنة.....ولا يظهر منه سوى أجزائه التكاثرية (الفطر) فوق سطح الأرض...
