1. Backs up /etc/default/grub with a timestamp.
2. Sets GRUB_TOP_LEVEL=/boot/vmlinuz-linux so mainline sits at the top of the menu.
3. Sets GRUB_DISABLE_SUBMENU=true so linux-lts appears on the first screen.
4. Pins GRUB_DEFAULT=0 and comments out GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT, so a one-off LTS boot doesn't stick.
5. Regenerates /boot/grub/grub.cfg and prints the resulting menu order.

Linkerd upstream opensource contributions from the proxy memory investigation
Context: enabling linkerd for sand-api on prod has been blocked — with the mesh on, sidecar memory on sand-api and its downstream services only ever climbs and never releases, so we couldn't safely take it to prod traffic. While root-causing that blocker, we found it isn't our config at all: it's a long-standing bug/gap in linkerd itself. We've root-caused both, built + validated the fixes, and upstreamed them:
1. jemalloc missing on arm64 (the reason proxy memory never releases on Graviton + why MALLOC_CONF tuning silently does nothing):
• Issue: github.com/linkerd/linkerd2/issues/15613
• PR (fix): github.com/linkerd/linkerd2-proxy/pull/4613
2. No max age / idle timeout for pooled proxy-to-proxy HTTP/2 connections (held connections pin buffer memory forever — even app-side idle TTLs can't touch them, so memory climbs until restart/OOM):
• Issue: github.com/linkerd/linkerd2/issues/15623
• PR (fix): github.com/linkerd/linkerd2-proxy/pull/4618 — already reviewed by a community member; all feedback addressed and validated on our test cluster, waiting for next review.
The changes are small — feel free to review the code on the PRs.

What problem are you trying to solve? The problem: linkerd2-proxy compiles jemalloc in as the global allocator only for x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu. On arm64 the proxy silently falls back to glibc mal...
