▪️The Ecological Footprint is a resource accounting tool that measures how much biologically productive land and sea is used by a given population or activity, and compares this to how much land and sea is available.

▪️Productive land and sea areas support human demands for food, fibre, timber, energy, and space for infrastructure.

▪️Ecological Footprint accounts answer a specific research question: how much of the biological capacity of the planet is demanded by a given human activity or population

▪️Ecological Footprints can be calculated for individual people, groups of people (such as a nation), and activities (such as manufacturing a product).

The Bangkok Declaration on Combating Marine Debris in ASEAN Region was adopted by leaders of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which includes four of the world’s top polluters.

▪️ Just five Asian countries — China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand — dump more than half of the eight million tonnes of plastic waste that end up in oceans every year, according to a 2017 Ocean Conservancy report.


▪️ The region has come under fire for not doing enough to tackle its mounting trash troubles, with single-use plastic and sub-par waste management adding to the problem.

▪️It is listed in schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

▪️IUCN status – Least concern.

▪️This omnivorous species inhabits slow-running rivers and stagnant water bodies such as ponds, puddles, tanks, roadside ditches.

▪️Possession of this species of turtles is strictly prohibited as it is a scheduled species as per the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972
