United for Biodiversity’ coalition
The European Commission (EC) has launched the ‘United for Biodiversity’ coalition.
The coalition is made up of zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, national parks, and natural history and science museums from around the world.
The coalition offers the opportunity for all such institutions to “join forces and boost public awareness about the nature crisis.
The coalition adopted a common pledge, citing the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and
Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Global Assessment finding that one million species were already at risk of extinction, and appeals to visitors to each of their institutions to “raise their voice for nature.

The ‘State of India’s Birds 2020’ report, the first comprehensive assessment of range, abundance and conservation status of birds in India, has underlined concerns about some bird species and good news about a few others.
Released during CMS COP13, the international conference held recently in Gandhinagar, the report was prepared as a partnership among 10 organisations including the World Wildlife Fund, Wildlife Institute of India and Nature
Biodiversity Authority-India.
Much of its data is based on citizen science — information provided by birdwatchers through various platforms.

▪️Is a policy instrument to catalyze the development of renewable energy.
▪️It is a market-based mechanism which will help the states meet their regulatory requirements (such as Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPOs)) by overcoming the geographical constraints on existing renewable potential in different states.
▪️Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), also known as green energy certificates or
tradable renewable certificates which are proof that energy has been generated from renewable sources such as solar or wind power.
▪️Each REC represents the environmental benefits of 1MWh of renewable energy
generation.
▪️When you purchase RECs, renewable energy is generated on your behalf.

Endemism is the ecological state of a species being unique to a defined geographic location, such as an island, nation, country or other defined zone, or habitat type; organisms that are indigenous to a place are not endemic to it if they are also found elsewhere.
Species richness is the number of different species represented in an ecological community, landscape or region. Species richness is simply a count of species, and it does not take into account the abundances of the species or their relative abundance distributions.

The State of the World's Forests published by Food and Agriculture organization and in reports on the status of forests, recent major policy and institutional developments and key issues concerning the forest sector.
The BioCarbon Fund is a public-private sector initiative managed by the World Bank and supports projects that generate multiple revenue streams.
It combines financial returns from the sale of emission reductions (i.e., carbon credits) which increase local incomes and provide other indirect benefits from sustainable land management practices. Generating multiple revenue streams is crucial to rural communities that otherwise have limited sources of income.
