13 Tiger range countries are Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia,
Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam.
One-horned rhinoceros

• It is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. With at least half of the total population, India’s Kaziranga National Park remains the key reserve for this species.

Rhino census:
• The census is carried out every three years.
• The census total given is an estimate, with authorities cautioning that the population could be bigger than that counted because some animals were concealed by tall grasses and reeds.
• In 2018, Kaziranga National Park has counted 2,413 one-horned rhinos - up 12 from 2015.

DNA Database of Indian Rhino
• By 2021, the Indian rhino could be the first wild animal species in India to have all its members DNA-sequenced.
• The project’s proponents include the World Wildlife Fund for Nature-India (WWF-India) and the Centre-funded Wildlife Institute of India (WII).

Indian (One Horn) Rhino Vision 2020 -3000 by 2020 in Assam
• Indian rhino vision 2020 implemented by the department of environment and forests, Assam.
• The programme will be supported by WWF — India, the international rhino foundation (IRF), and a number of local NGOs.
• Translocations are the backbone of the IRV 2020 program.
• The goal set was to populate the potential rhino habitat areas identified viz. Manas NP, Dibru Saikhowa WLS, Laokhowa - Bura Chapori WLS with a viable population of rhino through translocations from Kaziranga NP and Pobitora WLS.

National Rhino Conservation Strategy:
• It calls for active engagement between India and Nepal to conserve the Greater one-horned rhinoceros.
• The plan said the single population of rhinos in Sukla-Phanta (Nepal), Valmiki Tiger Reserve(India) and Chitwan National Park (Nepal) and Dudhwa (India) is separated by the political boundary between the two countries.

Special Rhino Protection Force:
• Basically SRPF is a tiger protection force that was named after the rhino since threat of poaching is more for one-horned herbivore.
• This Special Force has been raised by initiative of both central as well as state governments so as to control rhino poaching in tiger reserve.
• The state government of Assam would be paying salaries of SRPF members and amount would be reimbursed by National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), which recommended setting up of this special force.
