Call for Proposals: Language Testing Special Issue 2026

Dear colleagues,

This is a friendly reminder that the deadline to submit a proposal for the 2026 special issue of Language Testing is only a week away!

The editors of Language Testing invite proposals from prospective guest editors for the 2026 special issue of the journal on a theme pertaining to language testing and assessment.

We particularly welcome special issue proposals that expand upon current movements in the field, including but not limited to:

New constructs for language testing in the digital era;
Current innovations in language assessment as they shape or influence shifts in language testing ideologies (i.e., beliefs about and uses/misuse of assessments);
(Re)connections between language testing and other fields in linguistics, applied linguistics, applied psychology, and beyond;
Methodological trends and considerations in language testing research and practice.

Transdisciplinary and mixed-methods research studies are encouraged.

We value proposals that make use of Open Science Initiatives, including preregistration, open data, and open materials. Supplemental files, data publication, and video abstracts are encouraged, as are Accessible Summaries of the papers (see https://oasis-database.org/).

The deadline for the submission of proposals is May 26, 2024. For more information about how to submit a special issue proposal, please read the “Language Testing – Special Issue Instructions for Guest Editors” document. 🟣"Assessment should be seen as a means of enhancing learning, rather than simply as a way of measuring it." - Royce Sadler

🟣In all its forms, assessment is a continual part of our lives. From early years learning to annual appraisals at work, a variety of stakeholders, including ourselves, need to know where we’re at on a particular journey, and what else needs to happen to help us achieve the goals we lay out for ourselves and others.

🟣This 3-session event looks at assessment during the English language learning journey from 3 distinct perspectives: the early years, in-course (formative) assessment and the final step(?!) of a language learning journey. Join us for a day all about achievement, and what teachers can do to help their learners both FEEL ready and, of course, BE ready for anything.

🟣The event will take place live 3 times on Wednesday 22nd May
at 11am, 2pm, and 9:30pm UK Time.
