🇺🇸: 🇴🇲: 🇮🇷 | Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi:
Tehran and Washington have reached an understanding on main principles during today’s talks in Geneva.
There have been positive developments compared to the last round.
Both parties will work on potential agreement documents and exchange them. This does not mean an agreement will be reached soon, but the path has begun.
Compared to the last round, very serious discussions took place, and there was a constructive atmosphere where both sides exchanged their points of view.
Some ideas were discussed, and agreements on certain main principles were reached. Based on these principles, a document will eventually be drafted. We are hopeful this can be achieved.
Once the document drafting stage is reached, naturally the process will slow down.
Iran has consistently affirmed that it neither seeks to manufacture nor acquire nuclear weapons, which have no place in Iran’s national security doctrine.
This position is rooted in our defense policy and reinforced by clear religious boundaries prohibiting weapons of mass destruction.
Despite Iran’s commitment to diplomacy and good-faith engagement, the conduct of certain Western states, particularly the United States, has seriously undermined the credibility of the negotiating process.
By colluding with a non-party to the NPT (Israel) against a state party, the United States, one of the treaty’s depositories, has inflicted a serious blow to the integrity, credibility, and spirit of the NPT.
The consequences of such actions will persist indefinitely.
Attacks on safeguarded nuclear facilities constitute war crimes, risk radiological release, long-term environmental contamination, and transboundary effects impacting the entire region.
The failure of the Security Council and the IAEA to unequivocally condemn these attacks sets a dangerous precedent and signals a serious erosion of the global non-proliferation regime.
Selective condemnation and double standards seriously undermine the credibility of international norms and institutions.
Silence in the face of such violations is not neutrality; it is acquiescence.
While the United States and certain European countries have turned a blind eye to the threats posed by the Israeli regime to international peace and security, including its nuclear capabilities, they continue to portray Iran’s peaceful nuclear program as a threat to global peace and security.
The Israeli regime has committed the most atrocious crimes over the past eight decades with complete impunity.
In less than two years, Israel has attacked seven countries in the region, while more than 70,000 people have been massacred in Gaza as part of its colonial genocide.
There is no crime it has not committed, and no red line it has not crossed.
The choice before us is clear: either we dismantle nuclear weapons, or they will one day dismantle us.
Together we can work to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons.

🇮🇷 | Full speech of Imam Khamenei (H)—17/02/2026: (1/4):
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings be upon our master and prophet, Abu al-Qasim Mustafa Muhammad, and upon his pure and chosen family, especially the remainder of Allah on Earth.
Welcome, dear people of Tabriz and Azerbaijan, especially the youth and the families of the martyrs. The presence of so many young people here in this gathering, coming from Azerbaijan to this Hussainiya, is a sign of the “intergenerational connection” between all generations of the Revolution in the city of Tabriz and in Azerbaijan, which is one of the greatest merits of your city and province.
Whenever I have traveled to Tabriz or other cities of Azerbaijan during the Revolution, I have felt a special distinction, a kind of prominence in the sentiments, outlook, and perspectives of these people that one sees less often elsewhere. The events of the 29th of Bahman 1356 (February 18, 1978) are a historical mark that cannot be forgotten. The timeliness, the prompt action, and the self-sacrifice of that event are remarkable. May Allah bless the late Friday Imam of the city, the Aali Al-Hashem (r), who correctly described these characteristics in one of our meetings, and I have witnessed them with my own eyes.
Let me start with my main advice: do not lose this sense of timeliness; do not miss being present at the right moment; this is a great merit. Azerbaijan is alive and vibrant. A living and active nation never falls prey to political games or the various tricks of enemies. Praise be to Allah, you have preserved this sense of timing and awareness; this year, on the 22nd of Bahman, according to reports we received, populations increased in all cities, and in Tabriz, it was double.
My dear friends! This visit today is exceptional; it is different from other years. This year has been remarkable; the Iranian nation, in several stages, has demonstrated its greatness, determination, firm resolve, and capabilities, from the twelve-day war to these recent days.
Of course, today we are also on the eve of Ramadan, which is also one of the blessed days. This year, our people, including you proud people of Azerbaijan, were able to make Iran proud, to elevate your country. When I say “make proud,” it is not just a phrase; this is what our officials report to us when they travel abroad on political matters. They say that today “Iran” has a special prominence in the eyes of the politicians we meet and discuss Iran with, and this is due to these steadfast stances and demonstrations of strength.
Today, I want to speak about two topics: first, about the recent sedition that occurred about a month to forty days ago; it is necessary to discuss and analyze this. I spoke briefly about this a few days ago, and I will speak again briefly today; but those who are thoughtful and analytical should do their work. The second topic is about America, the declining system, this collapsing empire, and I will make a few remarks on that.
Regarding this sedition, I will tell you in one word: my dear friends, what happened was a “coup attempt” that failed. It was not a matter of just a group of young or older people getting angry somewhere, taking action, protesting, or rioting; it was more than that, it was a coup, but this coup was crushed under the feet of the Iranian nation.
In brief: the intelligence and espionage agencies of two countries, the United States and the occupying regime of Palestine, that is, the illegitimate Zionist regime, together with the intelligence agencies of some other countries, some of which we know, over time identified a number of malicious or prone-to-evil individuals in our country. They took them, gave them money, weapons, sabotage training, and training to infiltrate military or governmental centers, and sent them to Iran, waiting for an opportunity.

(2/4):
When the opportunity arose about a month and a half ago, these naive and inexperienced youths were sent forward toward sensitive centers, military facilities, infrastructure, fuel depots, and important government and military centers. These instigators themselves entered the scene with various weapons, handguns, personal weapons, rifles, grenades, and so on. Their strategy was to act violently and recklessly, like ISIS. They decided to act brutally, therefore, they burned people alive, killed children in their fathers’ arms, and committed violent acts. Unfortunately, some of our compatriots lost their lives because of their actions.
The goal was this: the goal was to weaken and destabilize the foundations of the system, to seize sensitive centers, to take over the broadcasting organization, and similar actions. This is what they intended to do. The law enforcement forces, the Basij, the Revolutionary Guard, and many young people who were neither part of the Basij nor the Guard, stood against them. Some confronted them with bare hands, some were martyred, but in the end, what happened? In the end, whether the enemy accepts it or not, this coup, which had been meticulously planned, funded, and prepared inside the country, was crushed, defeated, and destroyed. This is what happened. The matter is significant; it is not a small issue.
What happened was the enemy’s failure and the Iranian nation’s victory. This is clear and obvious. Then came the extraordinary rallies on the 22nd of Dey and later the 22nd of Bahman, which were truly divine manifestations of the massive and concentrated movement of the people. These are political events. There are also future political strategies. I do not want to speak definitively, but I want to say that the Iranian nation, which has been able to emerge victorious from the ill will and plots of the enemy, must preserve this victory, which requires readiness, vigilance, and national unity.
However, blood was shed. We are mourning, we are grieving for the blood that was spilled. Some of those killed were the corrupt instigators and coup plotters themselves; some were people whose time had come and passed away, and their affairs are with Allah, and we do not concern ourselves with them. But there were others who were not part of that group. There were three categories, three groups. I divide the casualties into three groups:
The first group consisted of the defenders of security and protectors of the system’s safety, whether law enforcement, Basij, or the Revolutionary Guard, and those who stood alongside them. They were martyred and are among the highest-ranking martyrs.
The second group were bystanders. When an instigator creates sedition in the city, it is not only those directly confronting them who are harmed; innocent people walking in the streets toward their work or homes were also targeted. Some of these people were martyred, and they too are martyrs because they were killed in the enemy’s sedition. Wherever the bullet came from, in the enemy’s sedition, this occurred, and thus this second group is also martyrs.
The third group consisted of those who were deceived, naive, inexperienced, and joined the instigators. I want to say that they are also part of us; they are also our children. Some of them repented. Some wrote letters to me saying that we went into the streets that day, please forgive us. They were not in prison; they were free, yet they repented and admitted their mistakes. Those among them who were killed were also counted as martyrs by the authorities, and rightly so.
Therefore, the circle of those who lost their lives, whom we count as martyrs, is broad. Apart from the leaders of sedition and those who took money and weapons from the enemy, the rest — whether security defenders, bystanders, or even those who walked a few steps with the instigators — are our children. We pray for mercy and forgiveness for them. They made mistakes, and may Allah forgive their errors, Insha’Allah.

Now, consider the phenomenon created by the Americans called ISIS, which the Americans themselves admitted and acknowledged that they created through certain methods. ISIS has mostly been defeated, but this new group is like a new ISIS; we must be vigilant, both officials and the people, especially the youth, must be aware of who they are listening to and who is making proposals to them.
If any of the main corrupt instigators are still in the country, which they surely are, they must be pursued, punished, and tried. The nation has a right to demand justice.
Security and judicial bodies are obliged to take legal and fair action against anyone cooperating, siding with, or echoing the enemy, whether in action, speech, or analysis. I do not advocate excessive harshness, but excessive leniency, like excessive harshness, harms the country. I strongly believe that America’s future plans regarding the Islamic Republic will be of this type. However, I am confident, by Allah’s grace, that any such moves will be destroyed by the Iranian nation without doubt. The nation is alive, vigilant, and prepared.
Regarding the declining American empire, it is truly in decline. They face economic, political, and social problems. More than fifty percent of Americans do not support their current president. These are the problems of a nation; they are drowning in difficulties. I will say only one thing: as I said before, our issue with America is that they want to swallow Iran, and the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic stand in their way. They wish to dominate the Iranian nation.
The statements made by the U.S. president, which I will now refer to, are sometimes threats, sometimes claims that a certain action must or must not happen; the meaning is that they are seeking to dominate the Iranian nation.
The Iranian nation is well-versed in its Islamic and Shiite teachings and knows what to do. Imam Husayn (A) said: “One like me does not pledge allegiance to someone like Yazid.” In reality, the Iranian nation says that a nation like ours, with its culture, history, and high knowledge, will not pledge allegiance to corrupt leaders like those currently in power in the United States.

(4/4):
Everything we had heard about their corruption is one side, and the case of this infamous and corrupt island is the other side. These incidents truly reflect Western civilization. When we speak about Western civilization and Western liberal democracy, this is what we mean. They have been moving for two, three hundred years, and the result is something like this. This island is just one example; there are many similar cases. Just as this one, which was once hidden, has now been exposed, many other things will also come to light.
Regarding America, the current government propaganda, the press, and Zionist media active in America are almost entirely threatening Iran these days. They threaten, saying “we will do this, we will do that.” You people of Tabriz, and much of the Iranian nation, on the 22nd of Bahman, responded to these threats and showed that these threats have no effect. In fact, threats have the opposite effect; they create motivation. The massive presence of the people in the 22nd of Bahman rally answered many of these meaningless statements made by current U.S. leaders.
Even they themselves know the truth. Americans who constantly threaten, claiming war will happen, etc., know that they cannot withstand these claims; their economic problems, political problems, and international credibility do not allow them to face such resistance. They know that if they make a mistake, the future consequences will be theirs.
One of the signs of the decline of the corrupt and oppressive American empire is their illogical behavior. They are illogical. When a government acts, there should be logic behind it; they have none. One of their illogical actions is their interference in our domestic affairs. First, they want to interfere in Iran’s internal matters. One of the domestic issues of great importance to us is our weapons. We must possess deterrent weapons. A country without deterrent weapons will be crushed under the feet of its enemies. Deterrent weapons are essential for our nation. Americans unnecessarily interfere in this matter, saying “you may have missiles this way or that way, with this range, not more than that.” What business is it of yours? It concerns the Iranian nation.
Or take the matter of the peaceful nuclear industry. The peaceful nuclear industry is not for war; it is for running the country, for agriculture, for healthcare, for energy, and for everything dependent on energy. The Iranian nation is carrying out its work; what business is it of yours? What right do you have? When you say “it is our undeniable right,” this is also included in the regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency; every country has the right to possess nuclear facilities within its borders, including enrichment facilities. This is part of the nation’s rights. Why do Americans interfere? This shows the disorder and lack of logical thinking among America’s current and past leaders. Why interfere? What is even more absurd is that they interfere and then say, “Let us negotiate about your nuclear energy, and the result of the negotiation should be that you do not have this energy!” If a negotiation is really to take place, which it should not, determining the result beforehand is a wrong and foolish act. You say, “let us discuss and reach an agreement on this topic,” but why do you predetermine the result? They say, “We must reach this agreement!” This is foolish. Such foolishness is being done by U.S. presidents, some senators, and other officials.
They do not realize that the path is a dead end for them. The U.S. president repeatedly says that our army is the strongest in the world. The strongest army in the world can sometimes be struck so hard that it cannot rise! They constantly say, “We have sent a warship toward Iran.” Very well, a warship is indeed a dangerous machine, but even more dangerous than the warship is the weapon that can sink it to the bottom of the sea.
The U.S. president recently said that for 47 years, America has not been able to destroy the Islamic Republic.

He complained to his own people that 47 years have passed and the Islamic Republic still stands. This is a good admission. I say, you will not be able to do it either.
The Islamic Republic means a living nation. The Islamic Republic is not a government separate from the people. The Islamic Republic is the Iranian nation: a steadfast, strong nation, a nation ready to work, struggle, and strive for its progress, and praise be to Allah, it has advanced in these 47 years. The day the Islamic Republic was a small sapling, you could not uproot it; today, praise be to Allah, the Islamic Republic is a tall and fruitful blessed tree.
In conclusion, I want to tell the dear government officials that whatever effort they are making, they must double it, they must multiply it. We have many resources; the current inflation in the country is illogical; the collapse of the national currency to this extent is illogical. These must be corrected, and, God willing, they will be corrected. Officials have started the work; they must continue it seriously, carefully, and considering all aspects to resolve domestic problems and stabilize the business environment.
If there is any threat, the systems to neutralize it also exist, by Allah’s grace. People should do their work, live their lives, study, and carry out business and trade without worry. The country must have an environment of calm, self-confidence, and tranquility; for Allah sent His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers. Allah, by His grace, will bestow peace and assurance on every individual and will enable the officials to fulfill their responsibilities.
I welcome the families of the dear martyrs who have traveled this long path to be present. May Allah grant success to all of them and unite these dear martyrs with the Prophet.
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
