According to preliminary investigations, the family was killed while having breakfast inside their home, with authorities believing that the husband killed all family members and then took his own life. Local sources reported that Ali Bassam Tamer was killed after two armed men shot him in front of his home in the Masakin al-Dimas area of the Damascus countryside at around 11:00 p.m. on December 31. The attack was reportedly carried out because of his Alawite identity, with sources stating that the two gunmen knocked on his door and claimed he was wanted, then immediately opened fire when he opened it, killing him on the spot inside his home. It was further noted that the HTS-led regime has carried out daily secret assassinations targeting Alawite individuals across Syria following earlier massacres, allegedly to avoid direct responsibility of its security apparatus.
