The signals and statements issued by U.S. President Donald Trump, which infringe upon the right of the Iraqi people and their political forces to choose their Prime Minister free from dictates and pressure, not only expose the true face of American policies when they clash with the will of peoples, but also confirm that slogans of democracy and the rights of nations are used merely as selective tools rather than as consistent principles.

These statements also strip away all pretexts used by certain political forces that claim to uphold the independence of Iraqi decision-making from foreign agendas, while simultaneously speaking of balanced and friendly relations with the United States. The reality on the ground clearly exposes the falseness of such claims.

Harakat Huqooq affirms that the position of Prime Minister of Iraq is a purely sovereign matter, to be decided exclusively through constitutional frameworks and national will, not through external messages, lobbyist deals, or cross-border interest calculations.

In this context, Harakat Huqooq calls on the Coordination Framework and all national forces to shoulder their historic responsibilities, to firmly confront any attempt to undermine Iraq’s independent decision-making, and to unify political positions in a manner that preserves the dignity and authority of the state and protects the democratic process from manipulation and internationalization.

The movement further stresses that this blatant interference must be used as an opportunity to unify national efforts, strengthen the principle of sovereignty and independent Iraqi decision-making, and strictly adhere to constitutional mechanisms in selecting the Prime Minister and senior state positions. It reiterates that political forces’ preoccupation with narrow interests leads only to the humiliation of the state and the violation of its sovereignty.

Iraq is not an open arena for the experiments of others, and it will not be governed except by the will of its own people, regardless of the pressures or the tools used to impose them.

This crude and arrogant approach places political forces before a moral and historical responsibility that transcends narrow disputes and short-term calculations. It obliges them to adopt a unified stance rejecting this humiliating domination. The American position does not target a specific individual; rather, it carries a clear political implication aimed at placing Iraq within the sphere of American tutelage—where the United States appoints whom it wishes and removes whom it wishes—in a manner that undermines the very essence of sovereignty and exposes the complicity of certain parties in seeking support from external “lobbies.”

There is no doubt that this reckless policy, if not confronted with firm resistance, amounts to pushing Iraq toward a path of submission and surrender to the hegemony and domination of the American occupier, and toward sinking into the mire of dependency and normalization. The dignity and faith of our people refuse such a fate—our people who have offered convoys of martyrs in defense of their homeland, their sanctities, and their sovereignty.

The America that claims to be the guardian of democracy is the first to stand against the will of peoples when their choices do not suit its interests. In Washington’s view, democracy is acceptable only when it produces leaders who serve American interests, and it is discarded the moment a nation chooses a different path.

America does not oppose al-Maliki or others out of concern for Iraq, but out of fear of losing its own influence. It has never supported Iraq without demanding a price, and it has never been present except to impose dependent leaders who turned their people, national wealth, and resources into tools serving American and Zionist interests.

As for the threat to cut support, it is a clear admission that such assistance was never meant for the Iraqi people. It was merely a tool of political blackmail: choose the leaders we want for you, or be denied the right to live with dignity.

Freedom is not granted by decisions from the White House. Democracy is not measured by Washington’s approval. Nations are not built through foreign dictates, nor through prosperity conditioned on the security of Israel.

Therefore, Iraq does not need a certificate of good conduct from Trump, nor permission from the White House to choose its leaders.

Iraq is built by the will of its people, and the same figure who raises the slogan “Let’s make Iraq great” is the very one who cannot tolerate seeing Iraq free, strong, and independent from America’s sphere of control.
