🏴‍☠️ | Map experts Adi Ben Nun from Hebrew University and Professor Yaakov Garb from Ben-Gurion University revealed that “some of the areas announced yesterday by the army spokesperson as designated zones for the displacement of residents from northern Gaza Strip” are actually located in zones the army itself had previously identified as dangerous and unsuitable for civilian presence. In fact, the map published by the army yesterday marks these areas in red.

An analysis conducted by Garb shows that this is not limited to a few cases: out of 19 “blocks” on Adraee’s map, six blocks are located entirely or partially outside the permitted areas.

The examination reveals further problems. For example, the designated evacuation areas are very small relative to the population’s needs. According to the analysis, the available area does not exceed approximately seven square kilometers.

Moreover, this area is not entirely vacant. Some of it consists of land where tents cannot be pitched, and in other parts, tents are already present.

Both Ben Nun and Garb also provided recent satellite images to Haaretz. These images show that while some areas already contain many displaced persons’ tents, other areas appear as sand dunes where setting up tents or living in reasonable conditions would likely be impossible or extremely difficult. Additional sections appear as roads or spaces prone to flooding by rainwater.

Humanitarian organizations in Gaza warn that any evacuation of the area would likely trigger a humanitarian catastrophe. Most residents have already been displaced multiple times and lack the financial, physical, or psychological capacity to endure another displacement, while conditions in the Strip are already extremely difficult.
