Commenting on the recent events in Lebanon and the visit of the American delegation to Beirut, the Political Assistant to the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hajj Hussein al-Khalil, made the following statement:
First: It has become clear from the successive behavior of the American administration that it wants to eliminate all the elements of resilience and defense that Lebanon possesses, and transform it into an American-Israeli colony, steering it toward what is called the path of normalization and surrender, leading to the Abraham Accords. Unfortunately, through American and regional guardianship authorities operating in this country both openly and secretly, it has succeeded in dragging the Lebanese government into taking “sinful decisions” as a first step toward an integrated path of complete surrender and submission.
Second: The brazen and humiliating American dictates, represented in the statements of members of the ill-omened American delegation in the media and before Lebanese officials, aimed at disarming Hezbollah as a prerequisite for any alleged security and stability, are nothing but a clear and shameful abandonment of the agreement sponsored by America and France in October 2024, whose first and explicit clauses called for stopping hostile actions and halting all Israeli aggressions by land, sea, and air without any ambiguity. The American administration that sent its messengers to Beirut, starting with Ortega, then Tom Brack with his first, second, and third papers, followed by an expanded delegation including members of Congress and the administration, wanted to completely wash its hands of all its previous commitments, explicit guarantees, and obligations to pressure Israel to stop its daily aggressions and withdraw from the occupied areas of Lebanon. While we condemn this despicable movement, we repeat to the ears of official authorities in Lebanon to beware of falling into such deadly traps.
Fourth: The claim by some concerned parties in the country, especially those at the head of the executive authority, that what they are doing is implementing the Taif Agreement, is a grave error and a major suspicion they awakened to invoke now in the presence of American and regional political invasion. Because the Taif Agreement explicitly stated Lebanon’s right to take all necessary measures that enable it to liberate and defend its land, not least its people’s honorable resistance. This was clear in the ministerial statements of all successive Lebanese governments after Taif. What we fear most is dragging the country into a civil war, which the Taif Agreement came to prevent after long suffering that afflicted the Lebanese.
