🚩 | Husayni Revolution (6): Imam Husayn’s Arrival in Karbala — 2nd Muharram, 61 Hijri:

After Qatqatana; Imam Husayn (A) halted and then entered the land of Karbala on the 2nd of Muharram in the year 61 Hijri. It is clear from multiple historical accounts that Imam Husayn (A) passed through Qatqataniyya, Nainawa, and al-Ghadhiriyyah before finally halting at Karbala. At Nainawa, a place where Imam Husayn (A) stopped briefly, a significant incident occurred. A rider of noble appearance suddenly approached, armed and carrying a bow, coming from Kufah. Upon arrival, he greeted Hurr ibn Yazid and his forces but did not greet Imam Husayn (A) or his companions. He handed Hurr a letter from ‘Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad, which stated: “When this letter reaches you and my messenger arrives, make Imam Husayn (A) stop, but only in an open place without shelter or water. My messenger will remain with you and not leave until he confirms that my instructions have been carried out.”

After reading the letter, Hurr addressed Imam Husayn (A) and his companions, saying, “This is the governor’s command. I must stop you at this place where I received his letter. This man is his messenger, and he has been ordered to ensure I obey.” At that moment, [Abu] al-Sha’tha’ Yazid ibn Ziyad al-Muhasir al-Kindi al-Bahdali confronted the messenger and asked, “Are you Malik ibn al-Nusair al-Baddi of the Kindah tribe?” The man replied, “Yes.” Yazid ibn Ziyad responded, “May your mother mourn you! What mission have you come for?” The messenger replied, “I am only following my leader and remaining faithful to my pledge of allegiance.” Abu al-Sha’tha’ then said, “You have disobeyed your Lord and obeyed a tyrant. You have earned shame and the Hellfire. Allah, the Almighty, says: ‘And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection, they will not be helped.’ That is your leader!”

Hurr then forced Imam Husayn (A) to stop in a barren area lacking both water and shelter. When the Imam’s companions requested, “Let us halt at this village, meaning Nainawa, or that one, meaning al-Ghadhiriyyah, or that one, meaning Shafiyyah,” Hurr refused, saying, “No, by Allah, I cannot allow that. This man has been sent to spy on me.” Zuhayr ibn al-Qayn then addressed Imam Husayn (A), saying, “O son of the Messenger of Allah, fighting these people now would be easier than facing those who will come after them. By my life, reinforcements will arrive and we will not be able to resist them.” Imam Husayn (A) replied, “I will not be the one to start the fighting.” Zuhayr insisted again, “Let us go to this nearby village. It is secure and lies on the bank of the Furaat. If they stop us, then we fight, for it is easier now than later.” Imam Husayn (A) asked, “Which village is that?” He replied, “Al-‘Aqr.” Imam Husayn (A) responded, “O Allah, I seek refuge with You from ‘aqr (destruction).” Then he halted at that place. This occurred on Thursday, the 2nd of Muharram, 61 Hijri.

Imam Husayn (A) thus entered the land of Karbala, the very land that would soon witness a tragedy that shook the foundation of Islam and humanity. According to both Sunni and Shi‘i sources, several events marked this arrival. His horse stopped on the land and refused to move. He met a local resident and asked the name of the place. Upon hearing “Karbala,” he realized it was the prophesied land of grief and tribulation. A companion once broke a miswak and blood flowed from it. The winds shifted, the skies dimmed, and nature itself seemed to mourn. The land signaled its coming misery.

Meanwhile, back in Kufah, Ibn Sa‘d had gathered his army at a location called Hammam A‘yan. When news reached Ibn Ziyad that Imam Husayn (A) was approaching, he summoned Ibn Sa‘d and said, “Go to Imam Husayn (A). You may resume your other mission after this matter between us and him is resolved.”

Only after such public correction might he be considered for acceptance again but why should he be? What we’re witnessing is a pattern: once Iran is trending, they jump on board. Once resistance becomes popular, they rebrand. Then, with the same energy, they reintroduce old sectarian narratives to divide Sunnis and Shias again. We all know how this works. Most of the Sunni world was pushed into hating Iran through propaganda many later understood and turned back. Yet a significant portion is still willing to align with Zionists in shared hatred.

But that does not mean a former royalist’s mouthpiece should come in and lecture us on who loves or hates Iran. No one asked for your approval, Ammar. You should return to the mess you’ve created and be accountable for your past distortions.

When he saw that staying silent on Iran wouldn’t bring back his popularity or boost his “market value,” he shifted rebranding, reframing, and repackaging whatever was convenient.
