He claims that Hala was subjected to physical abuse, threats, and coercion to enter into a forced marriage part of a broader trend that he alleges has affected at least four Alawite women, three of whom were minors. According to Yıldız, these women were forcibly converted or married under threat, an act that would constitute serious violations of international law.

Among the reported abuses, Hala was said to have had her hair and eyebrows forcibly shaved. Despite the torture, she resisted all attempts to force her into marriage or renounce her identity.
