The Syrian government itself benefited from this oil transit and received money from it. They gave it up, though, and in return, they got something from us. The Islamic Republic did not leave this service unrewarded. They helped us first.

In Syria, Martyr Soleimani trained, armed, organized, and prepared a group of thousands of local youth. They stood firm.

However, unfortunately, later some of the military officials of that country created problems and gave up on what was in their own best interest. After the fitnah of ISIS was extinguished, some of the forces returned, while others remained there.

They were present and involved, but as I mentioned, the main battle had to be fought by the army of that country. It is alongside the army of that country that the volunteer forces from elsewhere can fight. If the army of that country shows weakness, the volunteer forces cannot do much, and unfortunately, this happened.

When the spirit of resistance and steadfastness weakens, this is the outcome. This is the disaster that Syria is facing today, and only God knows how long it will continue. Until the youth of Syria, God willing, rise up and stop it, this is the result of the weaknesses shown there.

The Islamic Republic has faced significant and difficult events over these forty-plus years. Young people today did not witness those days. In Tehran, while people were sitting at home, Soviet-made MiG-25 jets belonging to Saddam would fly over us here. If they had shown restraint, they would not have bombed, but they used it to intimidate, and we were powerless to do anything. We didn’t have the defense systems or the resources to counter them.

The Islamic Republic has faced various tough and bitter events, but at no point has it been passive. Passivity should not come from a believer. Sometimes, passivity is more dangerous than the event itself. Passivity means that a person feels that nothing can be done, so they surrender. That is passivity. Therefore, in times of success and progress, arrogance is poison, and in times of failure and difficulties, passivity is poison.
