🇮🇷 Breaking | Imam Khamenei (H) explained about Iran’s Presence in Syria during the ISIS Era:

In the case of the ISIS fitna (sedition), ISIS means the bomb of insecurity. ISIS aimed to destabilize Iraq, destabilize Syria, destabilize the region, and ultimately reach the main point and final goal: to destabilize the Islamic Republic of Iran. This was the main and final objective. This is the meaning of ISIS.

We became present there for two reasons; one reason was to protect the sanctity of the holy shrines. Because they, far from spirituality and away from faith and religion, were hostile towards the holy shrines, intending to destroy them, and they did destroy them. In Samarra, for example, with the help of the Americans, they destroyed the holy dome of Samarra*. They also intended to do the same in Najaf, Karbala, Kazimain, and Damascus. This was ISIS’s goal. Naturally, the faithful, zealous, and devout lovers of Ahl al-Bayt would never tolerate such things. They would never allow it. This is one reason.

The other reason was security. The officials quickly realized that if this insecurity wasn’t stopped in these areas, it would spread and eventually engulf the entire country, bringing insecurity to our vast nation. The insecurity caused by ISIS was not something ordinary.

Imam Ali said, “A nation that fights the enemy in its own home becomes humiliated; don’t let it reach your home.” Hence, our forces went, our distinguished commanders went, our dear martyr General Soleimani and his companions went, and they organized and armed the youths both in Iraq and Syria. First in Iraq, then in Syria, they organized, armed, and stood up against ISIS, breaking ISIS’s backbone and eventually achieving victory.

Our military presence in Syria and Iraq was not about sending our armies to replace the army of these countries. What our forces could do, and did, was advisory work. What does advisory mean? It means forming important central headquarters, setting strategies, determining tactics, and, when necessary, entering the battlefield. But most importantly, it was about mobilizing the youth of the region, though our own youths, our Basij, were eager and determined. Many of them went as well.

Note: The holy dome of Samarra, Iraq, refers to the shrine of the 10th and 11th Imams from Ahlul Bayt, Imam Ali al-Hadi and Imam Hasan al-Askari. The dome was bombed by US backed insurgents in 2006.

Look at Hezbollah in Lebanon and see, was the catastrophe that befell Hezbollah a trivial matter? Losing someone like Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah was no small thing. Hezbollah’s attacks, its strength, and Hezbollah’s strong response after this became even greater than before. The enemy understood this and accepted it.

They thought that after delivering a blow, they could invade Lebanese territory, push Hezbollah back to certain points, like the Litani River, but they couldn’t do it. Hezbollah stood firm with full power and made them come to the table and request a ceasefire. This is resistance.

The resistance front is not a hardware that can break, collapse, or be destroyed. Resistance is faith, it is an ideology, it is a heartfelt and decisive decision, and it is a school of thought—a school of belief. Something that is the faith of a people cannot be weakened by pressure. On the contrary, it grows stronger.

The motivation of the members of the resistance front and its elements grows stronger upon seeing the enemy’s wickedness, and the scope of the resistance front expands.

A question arises here. Given the description we’ve made about the issues in Syria, were we present in Syria over these past years or not? Well, everyone knows the answer is yes. The martyrs of the shrine, the martyrs who defended the shrine, indicate that we were present.

We helped the Syrian government, but before we helped the Syrian government, at a crucial point, the Syrian government provided a vital help to us. This is something most people are unaware of.

In the midst of the Sacred Defense, when everyone was working for Saddam and against us, the Syrian government took a decisive step in our favor against Saddam. They cut the oil pipeline that carried oil from there to the Mediterranean and to Europe, with the money going into Saddam’s pockets. This pipeline was cut off, causing a global uproar. They didn’t allow oil meant for Saddam to flow.

The Syrian government itself benefited from this oil transit and received money from it. They gave it up, though, and in return, they got something from us. The Islamic Republic did not leave this service unrewarded. They helped us first.

In Syria, Martyr Soleimani trained, armed, organized, and prepared a group of thousands of local youth. They stood firm.

However, unfortunately, later some of the military officials of that country created problems and gave up on what was in their own best interest. After the fitnah of ISIS was extinguished, some of the forces returned, while others remained there.

They were present and involved, but as I mentioned, the main battle had to be fought by the army of that country. It is alongside the army of that country that the volunteer forces from elsewhere can fight. If the army of that country shows weakness, the volunteer forces cannot do much, and unfortunately, this happened.

When the spirit of resistance and steadfastness weakens, this is the outcome. This is the disaster that Syria is facing today, and only God knows how long it will continue. Until the youth of Syria, God willing, rise up and stop it, this is the result of the weaknesses shown there.

The senior officials of the armed forces and militant organizations write to me saying that in the case of Lebanon, in the case of Hezbollah, we cannot bear it any longer, please allow us to go.

Compare this with the army that cannot bear it and flees. Unfortunately, during the reign of the Pahlavi regime, our army was like this. They also did not stand against the foreign enemies in various wars, including World War II. The enemy came to the very gates of Tehran. They did not stand their ground. When you don’t resist, this is the result. One must resist.

In the difficult conditions we were in, we were still ready. I was told that all the necessary supplies for the Syrians had been prepared, and we were ready to go. The skies were closed, the land routes were closed, and both the Israeli regime and the U.S. blocked Syria’s skies and land routes. It was impossible. This is the situation. If the motivation within that country had remained and they could have spoken up against the enemy, the enemy would not have been able to block their skies or their land routes. Help could have been provided.
