Zionist courts have decided to uphold the one-year prison sentence for 14-year-old Ayham Salaymeh from Silwan, Al-Quds, and he is required to surrender himself in just 11 days. Ayham has spent the last 14 months under house arrest, which has significantly impacted his schooling and daily life.

In a heartbreaking statement, Ayham expressed, “I don’t want to be imprisoned. I want to keep going to school, to play with my friends and cousins. I want to keep playing football. I want to stay on my team. There’s beating and torture.”

His father shared the emotional toll of having a child in prison, unable to provide for him in the usual ways or even know where he is being transferred due to the lack of communication. He fears his son will suffer the same fate as many prisoners who have lost an average of 30 kg (66 lbs) during their time in detention this year.

This decision comes against the backdrop of a new Zionist law that allows for prison sentences for children under 14. Over 750 Palestinian children have been abducted in the West Bank since last year, highlighting the increasing injustice faced by Palestinian youth.

Today, 14-year-old Ayham Salaymeh from Silwan, AlQuds, (West Bank), will begin his one-year sentence in the occupation’s prisons after spending the last 14 months under house arrest.

‘We are better off than the others,’ Ayham said with confidence before turning himself in. Ayham and his father can be seen in Media 3 strolling through the city of Al-Quds with their heads held high.

In Media 4, his father says:

‘I brought him some clothes, even though they might not allow him to take anything with him. I took him to the restaurant he had been wanting to go to because he would be deprived of everything for a whole year. We will lose contact with him, and I won’t be able to hug him.’ However, in Media 5, his father displays the cruelty of the occupation’s prisons by adding: ‘The prison administration forced the child to remove his coat and hat, and they refused to allow him to bring clothes, shoes, or a blanket with him.’

Despite this, Ayham and his father remain steadfast. They will not allow the occupation’s prisons to break their morale or determination. In Media 2, Ayham’s father can be seen supporting his son by emphasizing: ‘Your brothers, friends, and loved ones, every prisoner who’s inside with you is your brother. They’re all like you, imprisoned for their love of the homeland.’
