Our November exchange student - Alessandra🇮🇹 - began her shadowing and observership on the research -Prevalence and predictive factors of malnutrition in children with Patent Ductus Arteriosus and short term post operative nutritional outcomes at TASH by Dr. Bereket Legesse, Chief resident at the department of Pediatrics and Child health. She learned the basics of research and got to participate in the data collection process for the remainder of her stay here.

🦠 MEASLES: KNOW THE FACTS
Measles is a highly contagious, acute viral illness caused by the measles virus (Paramyxoviridae family).
🔴 How it spreads
•Through coughing, sneezing, breathing
•Virus can stay in the air or on surfaces for up to 2 hours
🔴 Common symptoms
• High fever
• Cough & runny nose
• Red, watery eyes
• Rash starting on the face and spreading downwards
⚠️ Measles can lead to serious complications such as:
• Pneumonia
• Severe diarrhea
• Ear infections
• Encephalitis (brain swelling)
• Death especially in children under 5
👶 Who is most at risk?
• Unvaccinated children
• Pregnant women
• People with weakened immunity
✔ Two doses 💉 of the measles vaccine provide ~99% lifelong protection
✔ High vaccination coverage (≥95%) is essential to prevent outbreaks
