๐Growth through Empowerment๐
We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our intensive 4-week Life Skills Training program for second-year students at Addis Ababa University (AAU)!
In a powerful collaboration with the YeBen Endowment Fund, SCOPH-AA designed this comprehensive training to foster holistic personal development and equip students with essential skills for navigating their academic and personal lives effectively.
The program focused on four critical pillars crucial for student well-being and success:
โค๏ธ Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH): Promoting informed decision-making and responsible health practices.
๐ง Mental Health Awareness: Destigmatizing conversations and providing coping mechanisms for stress and academic pressure.
๐ซ Substance Abuse Prevention: Educating on risks and fostering resilience against harmful habits.
โจ Self-Care Strategies: Highlighting the importance of personal well-being, balance, and establishing healthy routines.
This initiative wasn't just a series of lecturesโit was an insightful, interactive, and transformative experience aimed at providing these deserving students with the much-needed practical and emotional toolkit to thrive in today's dynamic world. We believe that investing in these foundational life skills is paramount to creating a healthier, more capable future generation.

๐ Antimicrobial Resistance
๐Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is when germs change and medicines like antibiotics stop working. This makes infections like pneumonia, TB, and sepsis harder and sometimes impossible to treat.
๐Globally, AMR was directly linked to 1.27 million deaths in 2019, and 1 in 6 infections is already resistant to available antibiotics in 2025.
โ ๏ธThis is a serious threat to our health because AMR puts many of the gains of modern medicine at risk. It makes infections harder to treat and makes other medical procedures and treatments โ such as surgery, caesarean sections and cancer chemotherapy much riskier.
What can you do?
โ Only take antibiotics prescribed by a doctor.
โ Never share or use leftover antibiotics.
โ Always finish the full course, even if you feel better.
โ Prevent infections by washing hands regularly.
โจlet's protect our medicines for the future!

๐ Today is World AIDS Day ๐๏ธ
Since 1988, communities have stood together on World AIDS Day to show strength and solidarity against HIV stigma and to remember lives lost.
๐ This year's theme is "Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response", calling for sustained political leadership, international cooperation, and human-rights-centred approaches to end AIDS by 2030.
We honor the resilience of those living with the virus, and we pay tribute to the lives lost.
๐๏ธSCOPH-AA is preparing a special series of posts to mark this important day in our public health calendar to help break the stigma and spread awareness.
โจThe fight is not over, and awareness is our first powerful tool.
