Pre-Anesthesia Surgery : a Horror 😱

πŸ§  Imagine undergoing surgery, your body part being cut fully conscious...

      NO THANK YOU! Don't! πŸ™Œ

πŸ“Before the mid-19th century, that was  reality. It was a race against the clock for surgeons, with patients providing live commentary (mostly screams)
Speed was the name of the game – the faster the cut, the less you felt… or at least remembered. 😬

William T.G. Morton -1846 and Crawford Long - 1842  (both obsessed with ether, apparently!). Their early experiments gave a way to a pain-free solution. 😴

The advent of anesthesia transformed surgery from a barbaric ordeal into a carefully planned and controlled procedure ; a leisurely stroll through the body!

We went from "Chop chop πŸͺšπŸ”ͺπŸ—‘, you're done!"πŸ™ˆ to "Sweet dreams, see you in a few hours!"πŸ₯³ letting us snooze through the scary stuff! πŸ’€πŸ”ͺ

Day 1: We can end preventable maternal & newborn death

Every 7 seconds, a woman or newborn dies β€”often from preventable causes.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ή In 2000, Ethiopia had one of the highest maternal mortality rates: 953 deaths per 100,000 live births.
By 2020, that number dropped to 267.
Newborn mortality declined from 48 to 27 per 1,000 live births.

Progress is possible.
But we must go beyond survival.
We need to:
🧑Invest in long-term care for mothers
🧑Support women post-birth
🧑Empower girls to protect their rights and health

Together, we can end preventable deaths and build a healthier future for all.

Meet Helen Keller: A True Inspiration Who Changed the World Without Hearing or Sight

Born in 1880, Helen Keller lost both her hearing and sight at just 19 months old. But that didn’t stop her from becoming one of the most influential voices in history.

With the help of her teacher Anne Sullivan , Helen learned to communicate through tactile sign language, a groundbreaking achievement at the time.

She went on to become the first deaf-blind person to earn a college degree πŸŽ“, author 12 books πŸ“š, and travel the world as a speaker and activist for the rights of the deaf, blind, and disabled community ✊.

✍Helen proved that disability does not define your ability. Her courage and determination opened doors for millions and changed the way the world sees communication, education, and inclusion.

Beyond Survival – Dignity, Healing, and Hopeβ€βš•οΈβ€πŸΌ

Saving lives is the first stepβ€”but true care goes further.

1. Respectful care for all
Care should be dignified, empathetic, and include support for those facing miscarriage or stillbirth.
Training & counselling make a difference.

2. Don’t stop at delivery
🩺Up to 1 in 3 women suffer long-term complications after birth.

🩺1 in 5 experience postpartum depression or anxiety.
We need integrated care that includes mental, physical & social support.

3. Family friendly = life friendly
Maternity leave and legal protection support help moms heal and thrive.

4. Educate girls, empower women
Keeping girls in school reduces overall suffering.
Empowered women = healthier families and brighter futures.

April 11| World 🌎 Parkinson's Day

What is Parkinson’s disease 🧠?

πŸ“ Parkinson’s disease is a chronic, progressive neurological condition that affects the brain’s ability to control movement.

πŸ“ It’s caused by the loss of dopamine-producing cells in a part of the brain called the substantia nigra, which is responsible for voluntary movement. As dopamine levels drop, communication between the brain and body becomes disrupted.

Key facts:
πŸ”‘Named after Dr. James Parkinson, who described it in 1817
πŸ”‘Symptoms worsen over time
πŸ”‘More common with age, but can affect younger adults
πŸ”‘Slightly more common in men than women

What causes it?
The exact cause is still unknown. Possible factors include:
❓Genetics in some families
❓Environmental exposure to toxins or pesticides (research ongoing)

Stay with us as we continue to share more about Parkinson’s and its impact.
