This year, we focus on maternal and newborn health—the foundation of every strong community.
❓Every 7 seconds, we lose a mother or a newborn baby to causes that are largely preventable.
❓Over 2 million newborns and nearly 300,000 mothers die each year. It’s time to change that.
SCOPH-AA is joining the call to:
✨Advocate for high-quality care before, during, and after birth
✨Promote safe pregnancies and deliveries

Pre-Anesthesia Surgery : a Horror 😱
🧠 Imagine undergoing surgery, your body part being cut fully conscious...
NO THANK YOU! Don't! 🙌
📍Before the mid-19th century, that was reality. It was a race against the clock for surgeons, with patients providing live commentary (mostly screams)
Speed was the name of the game – the faster the cut, the less you felt… or at least remembered. 😬
William T.G. Morton -1846 and Crawford Long - 1842 (both obsessed with ether, apparently!). Their early experiments gave a way to a pain-free solution. 😴
The advent of anesthesia transformed surgery from a barbaric ordeal into a carefully planned and controlled procedure ; a leisurely stroll through the body!
We went from "Chop chop 🪚🔪🗡, you're done!"🙈 to "Sweet dreams, see you in a few hours!"🥳 letting us snooze through the scary stuff! 💤🔪
