Did you know that the ancient Greeks believed that the uterus could wander around the body like a lost animal? This condition was called "hystera" (meaning uterus) and was thought to cause a variety of symptoms, including anxiety, irritability, and even suffocation. To treat this condition, doctors would prescribe marriage, pregnancy, and even "smelling pleasant smells" to lure the wandering uterus back into its proper place.
