One needs to remember 80 Kanji to pass the Kanji test with flying colors for JLPT N5, which is not a difficult task if you make a daily target to remember at least 3 to 5 kanji every day. JLPT N4 level has an additional 167 Kanji apart from the 80 Kanji characters of JLPT N5. It means that to pass the Kanji test of JLPT N4, one needs to know approximately 250 Kanji.
