How to play the file above 👆
The “Randomizer” game is designed for revising the vocabulary for landscape features from Unit 5, i.e. cave, desert, forest, etc. The aim is to help students consolidate and remember the new words by engaging them in speaking and listening activities. When you click on the remote controller, the pictures will start changing. Click on the controller again to stop and choose a random picture. The material can be used in several ways.
📌 Variation 1.
Students look at the picture and answer three questions. 1. What place is it? 2. How do you get there? 3. What can you do there?
📌 Variation 2.
Divide the class into teams. Have one member from each team to come in front of the class and sit with their back to the board. In turns, the teams describe the picture chosen. Students on the chairs guess.
📌 Variation 3.
Play the randomizer three times and ask students to recall what was shown.
📌 Variation 4.
Divide the class into two teams. Teams stand in a row facing the board. Play the randomizer and choose a picture. The first players from each team call out what it is. The first player to say the correct word gets a point. They go to the back of the row. Then the second pair of players does the same, race to be the first to say the correct word.
📌 Variation 5.
Divide the class into two teams. Play the randomizer. One student from each team writes the spelling on a piece of paper and then shows the rest of the class. If the spelling is correct, they score a point for their team. The team with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.

This game is very simple to use. The words are from Vocabulary List on page 133 of the Student's Book. Here are a few ideas to make it more fun:
🔸Ask students to read the definition and guess the word. Then ask them to think of the word that comes to their mind when they see this word. This is an excellent chance to activate their prior knowledge.
🔸 Scavenger Hunt. This can be done at the end of the unit. Ask students to find the sentence with this word from the unit. The first student to find gets a point. This is a great chance for the students to see the word in context and think about its use.
🔸 Hot Seat. Divide the students into two teams. Ask one student to sit in front of the class with his/her back to the board. Project the game on the whiteboard and start reading the definitions. Or ask a volunteer student to read them. Set a time limit. The student who is sitting listens and guesses the word.
