I've just finished another material that will be useful for your lessons and can't wait sharing with you πŸ˜‡πŸ€©πŸ€“. These are personality adjectives flashcards. They are from Prepare coursebook for grade 9 (see Unit 1), however, anyone teaching adjectives of personality can make use of them. You can download the cards below.

Ideas for the classroom:
πŸ”Ά Students define and guess adjectives related to personality. Students take it in turns to pick up a card and describe the personality adjective to the class, without saying the adjective. The first student to successfully guess the personality adjective being described wins and keeps the card. The student with the most cards at the end is the winner.
πŸ”ΆShow a series of ten cards very quickly. The students have to pay attention and try to
memorize the flashcards and the right order. Ask the students to say the ten words in the right
order.
πŸ”Ά Ask students to choose a flashcard and think up of three professions associated with this adjective.

#Professional_development
Professional development has many disguises, doesn’t it? You improve your teaching skills by reading professional articles/blogs/books, attending conferences/webinars/seminars/ workshop or visiting classrooms. Even just talking to your colleagues about a classroom problem during a break can also be regarded as professional development. Another way to grow as a teacher is following a community of like- minded people on social media. My favourite one, in this regard, is American English for Educators Facebook page, which β€œβ€¦ provides a forum for English language educators and posts relevant TEFL/TESOL-related information, including professional development opportunities and practical classroom materials” (from the description of their page).
Here are just a couple of reasons why I follow this page:
πŸ”Ά Their posts are highly interactive. For example, the ones under hashtag #SolveTheScenario #ScenarioSaturday offer a scenario from a teaching experience describing a classroom problem and challenge the followers to offer a solution. #TeachersCorner – here you get a chance to reflect on this or that classroom experience. Or they just ask the followers what they are reading or even what’s on their menu. It’s so much fun to read the comments.
πŸ”Ά The posts are very informative. You can find announcements about events such as online courses or webinars. It’s an excellent chance to learn from qualified experts. You can also get notifications about the latest articles from English Teaching Forum. And the posts under #WordyWednesday hashtag will give you a chance to learn the terms related to ELT.
πŸ”Ά The posts are visually appealing. Each post is supported with a picture, which makes it attractive and interesting to read, and also minimizes the chances of missing them.
All in all, you will find everything you need to be a good teacher if you join this community with 464K followers.

IDEAS FOR USING IN THE CLASSROOM:
1️⃣ Show the information about a country and tell your students to read it carefully. Allow some time to remember. Hide the information and challenge students to recall as much detail as possible.
2️⃣ Tell students to read the information and make True/False statements. Ask them to read the statements to their partners.
3️⃣ Students work in groups. Assign a country for each group or let the groups to choose for themselves. Each group creates a short text about their country. Encourage groups to include additional info. Put the texts around the classroom. Students walk and read each other’s texts.
By the way, if you have YOUR suggestions on using this map, feel free to put them in the comments. I'll be more than happy to learn other ways of using it πŸ€“πŸ€©πŸ˜‡

P.S. Some features of the interactive map above do not work well on a smartphone, so I would recommend playing it on a computer.

Take your students on a tour around Edinburgh πŸš–πŸ—ΊπŸ¬.
This material is a PowerPoint version of the text about Edinburgh from Prepare Student's Book for grade 8 (Unit 14 page 86). I've added an interesting animation - a hand slides the phone and changes the pictures. The main purpose of creating this material is to introduce variety (an important element in planning a lesson) as the reading passages in the book follow almost the same pattern, that is students read and listen to the text.
