Today, I will share a couple of cool ideas to cook a great lesson and make your work with the new coursebook fascinating from the very first day of school.
For those who know very little English - Do not just give out your students their books! Hide the books somewhere in the classroom (or school). Ask kids to go round and seek them. Shout βHelloβ when they are close and βGood byeβ when they move away.
For those who know some English, prepare a Book Quest. Variation 1: learners do a task and for each correct answer they get a letter. At the end they make a word to find the place where the book was hidden. Variation 2: learners try to find books reading notes, e.g. βlook under the deskβ, oops there is another note which says βnot here, may be on the window?β and so on until they sucessfully read all the notes and find their treasure - superb new glossy books!
For teenagers and adults you can make Studentβs Book Quiz β write questions on the content of the new coursebook. For example, βIn which unit will we learn music phrases?β or βIs there a table of irregular verbs?β and anything like that. Students work in pairs to find the answers to the questions. Your students will be delighted, I am sure. You will captivate them into the wonderful world of knowledge from the very first pages.

This book is a must-have for a language teacher. It is about methods of foreign language teaching. I like the way it presents the information. Each chapter focuses on a different teaching approach, describing it being used in the classroom, analyzing what happened, and helping you think how you could apply it to your own teaching.
Highly recommended to those preparing for TKT π€π. The book is down there π

I've just finished another material that will be useful for your lessons and can't wait sharing with you ππ€©π€. These are personality adjectives flashcards. They are from Prepare coursebook for grade 9 (see Unit 1), however, anyone teaching adjectives of personality can make use of them. You can download the cards below.

Ideas for the classroom:
πΆ Students define and guess adjectives related to personality. Students take it in turns to pick up a card and describe the personality adjective to the class, without saying the adjective. The first student to successfully guess the personality adjective being described wins and keeps the card. The student with the most cards at the end is the winner.
πΆShow a series of ten cards very quickly. The students have to pay attention and try to
memorize the flashcards and the right order. Ask the students to say the ten words in the right
order.
πΆ Ask students to choose a flashcard and think up of three professions associated with this adjective.

#Professional_development
Professional development has many disguises, doesnβt it? You improve your teaching skills by reading professional articles/blogs/books, attending conferences/webinars/seminars/ workshop or visiting classrooms. Even just talking to your colleagues about a classroom problem during a break can also be regarded as professional development. Another way to grow as a teacher is following a community of like- minded people on social media. My favourite one, in this regard, is American English for Educators Facebook page, which ββ¦ provides a forum for English language educators and posts relevant TEFL/TESOL-related information, including professional development opportunities and practical classroom materialsβ (from the description of their page).
Here are just a couple of reasons why I follow this page:
πΆ Their posts are highly interactive. For example, the ones under hashtag #SolveTheScenario #ScenarioSaturday offer a scenario from a teaching experience describing a classroom problem and challenge the followers to offer a solution. #TeachersCorner β here you get a chance to reflect on this or that classroom experience. Or they just ask the followers what they are reading or even whatβs on their menu. Itβs so much fun to read the comments.
πΆ The posts are very informative. You can find announcements about events such as online courses or webinars. Itβs an excellent chance to learn from qualified experts. You can also get notifications about the latest articles from English Teaching Forum. And the posts under #WordyWednesday hashtag will give you a chance to learn the terms related to ELT.
πΆ The posts are visually appealing. Each post is supported with a picture, which makes it attractive and interesting to read, and also minimizes the chances of missing them.
All in all, you will find everything you need to be a good teacher if you join this community with 464K followers.
