Begin the lesson by announcing that you have an unusual guest today - a shy giraffe. Tell them that pupils will have to make some effort to see its entire body.
🦒 Shuffle the cards with words and give them out equally to all the pupils. Pupils can spread the cards in front of themselves on the table.
🦒 Put the giraffe’s head and the first word on the table (e.g. BAG)
🦒 A pupil sitting to the left looks at his cards and puts the next word but this word must have one different letter (e.g. BAT)
If a pupil does not have such word s/he misses a turn.
🦒 The game continues this way clockwise:
- bag
- bat
- fat
- fan
- man
- mat
- hat
- ham
- ...
🦒 The pupil who managed to get rid of all the cards is the winner.
🦒 If there are still cards left but nobody can add any, the game stops. Count the cards. The pupil with the least number of cards is the winner.

Congratulations to one of our channel members - Shaxzoda! She got a request from Washington to choose what time she would prefer to do her TEA (Teaching Excellence and Achievement) Program. (It might be postponed due to current situation with coronavirus).
Shaxzoda, you hit a home run 🤩🤩🤩. All your hard work and efforts paid off. Happy for you 🥳🥳🥳!!!
The number of TEA program participants at ELTresources is growing. Amazing, isn't it?!

I found this 4-minute video especially appealing. Although it does not have subtitles your students won't have difficulty understanding it. The pace of speech and pronunciation are just right for the 8th grade student's level. The video is about the history of library and rules on how to behave there.

This video where kids talk about libraries can be used as a warm up to Lesson 4 "At the library". Have your students watch the video then ask them to tell what they feel about the library.
The video has subtitles so students won't have difficulty understanding it.

The new "Teens' English" coursebook for grade 8 has "Listen and check" tasks but no audio recordings for them.
To help you a little I made a PowerPoint version of exercise 3b on page 33. After doing exercise 3a, display the presentation on the whiteboard. Click on the "check" button to reveal the answers. Then click on a pile of books at the right bottom to go to the next slide. Hope you will find this material useful. Feel free to share it with your colleagues.
