Platform for Social Apps version 0.7 was released with newest distributions.

⚡️Newest apps

1️⃣ We have created an unique general theme - Elgg Theme - for all apps with widely functionality.

We have tried to implement all the necessary functions for social networking services and all the numerous wishes of our customers.

Elgg Theme is the core of each app that has all so needed features.

All theme's features can be found in the "Details" tab on each app page.

2️⃣ All apps have an additional plugin for creating and editing the main aka landing page.

This is the main difference between one app and another, and affects their cost.

Some users want a simple homepage with a hero section and 'features' blocks, while others want to add a slider or contact form.

We have created several plugins with different usage scenarios for creating the landing page and added them to the main theme.

3️⃣ Of course, all apps are based on the latest version of #Elgg and you can try them out in a free trial period.

🚀 Updated site

We updated the site and all plugins using Elgg 3.

Like our apps, our website also uses Elgg Theme and additional Material UI plugin which will soon appear among our Distributions.

💪Next steps

We want to update all our templates from the eStore and place them in Concepts.

We will also add options to apps to buy releases in our marketplace and place them on your custom domain.

Cron #Elgg 3 - Full tutorial

🔸Setup

crontab -u www-data -e

* * * * * /usr/bin/php /var/www/site/www/vendor/bin/elgg-cli cron -q

-q flag will supress the output. You can remove it if you want cron logs to be saved on your server (that will flood your server inodes though).

🔸Test

For testing you can use an -i and -f flags.

-i for interval name,
-f for force run even if job is not due.

🔸Note that you no longer need to setup a gazillion jobs for each period.

You only need to setup one cron job that hits the main command every minute.
Elgg's cron handler will determine, which cron handlers are due and will run them.

🔸Force

php /var/www/site/www/vendor/bin/elgg-cli cron -i hourly -f

🔸Check

crontab -u www-data -l

The Forecast of Facebook's impending doom
Facebook with 1.9 billion members and $ 27.6 billions in revenue is facing pressure from smaller rivals sites like Nextdoor, Meetup, #Elgg sites, and Wordpress sites networks.

These applications are used by site owners especially Elgg engine to bring together neighbors, churches, pets, and people in the same area with shared interests.

Facebook just like AOL, Yahoo, Myspace, and Bebo has reached it’s peak and soon it will die out. The people who are inactive, leaving or abandoning the giant Facebook site are increasingly rising at alarming rate. Also, the majority of members who are losing trust in Facebook due to widespread of fake news on Facebook newsfeed and trending section is on the rise. Nowander Facebook Inc (FB.O) Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg revised Facebook's mission statement on Thursday to emphasize support for hobby clubs, civil society organizations and other community groups.

In addition, Mark Zuckerberg just sold $42.5 million of Facebook stock or shares is another sign that the advisors of Zuckerberg have sensed the beginning of downward spiral of Facebook share in the near future due to lose of user’s interest in Facebook.

Facebook has drastic decrease in daily users, specifically among younger teens. However, the Facebook investors do not seem to be running for the exit just yet.

Elgg has a better chance to grow smaller communities allover the world. The plugin and core developers of Elgg who had or have dought if Elgg will survive the future should get back to coding new tools that will help the future communities when Facebook will begin to trail off.
