why there is DC component in short circuit. what is the source of DC Component in Short circuit. Source of the DC Component: When a short circuit occurs, the current waveform becomes asymmetrical. This asymmetry is caused by the sudden interruption of the AC current's sinusoidal nature. At the moment of the fault, the current in the system's inductance cannot change instantaneously. To compensate for this, a DC component is introduced, which is equal in magnitude to the instantaneous value of the AC current at the fault's inception but of opposite polarity.
Decay of the DC Component: The DC component is not constant; it decays exponentially over time. The rate of decay depends on the system's resistance and reactance (R/X ratio). In systems with higher reactance, the DC component decays more slowly.
Impact on Fault Current: The addition of the DC component to the symmetrical AC fault current results in an asymmetrical fault current. This can lead to higher peak currents, which are critical for the design and operation of protective devices like circuit breakers

Impact of Altitude on Air Density and #Dielectric Strength in High-Voltage AIS #Substation Design
At higher altitudes, air #density decreases due to lower atmospheric pressure, reducing the number of air molecules per unit volume. This directly impacts air's #dielectric strength, which is roughly proportional to its density, as fewer molecules are available…
