What is the maximum allowable voltage drop for a feeder circuit as per the National Electrical Code (NEC) under normal conditions?
In NEC Article 215.2(A)(1), Informational Note No. 1 suggests that for feeders, the voltage drop should generally be limited to 3% under normal operating conditions. This is to ensure efficient operation of the electrical equipment. Additionally, when combined with branch circuits, the total voltage drop (feeder plus branch circuit) should not exceed 5% from the supply side to the point of utilization (see NEC 210.19(A), Informational Note No. 4 for branch circuits, which aligns with this concept).
