"The IBAVI's explorations are subject to the island factor, which is as powerful as the force with which it exhibits the crude reality. The Institute is challenged by a demand for housing that probably surpasses the feasibility of its satisfaction using the local
resources it would like to use. This demand for habitability is the product of an economic model which thus proves its unsustainability, the extent to which it depends on extrinsic, non-local resources for a basic, intrinsically local requirement such as habitability."

"In keeping with the tradition of domestic architecture in warm climates – and with immediate references such as the classical domus, the Islamic house and the island's own traditional architecture – the building's implementation strategy has been based on achieving a certain autonomy with respect to its immediate surroundings by defining an isolated, four-storey architecture adjusted to the buildable limits of the site."

"A change in the production, social and economic model is therefore needed. From our point of view, this change requires a new language, based on reducing resource consumption; increasing comfort; self-sufficiency in energy and materials; social justice; well being; and global environmental, economic, and social sustainability. If more than 7,000 languages are spoken on Earth, considering the globalised homogeneity of the 20th century, 7,000 languages of reduction need to appear, each one adapted to its own territory. In the Balearic Islands we are collectively developing a language adapted to the map of local resources with low environmental impact, which generally coincides with pre-industrial and craft materials that are made, or could be made, with renewable energy."

"A longitudinal threshold defines the building’s two long facades. The threshold is configured as a thick facade; a habitable facade. It acts as a climate control mechanism between indoors and outdoors. The threshold can be a porch, an energy collector or a thermal cushion, depending on the time of year and the weather conditions. It that can also be incorporated into the rooms, as an extension of them."
