Wicklow protest underway with locals objecting to almost 300 asylum seekers being accommodated at the Grand Hotel – up from just over 100 six months ago. Some 191 are single men.

A number of asylum seeker families who were living there were moved to accommodation in other parts of the country to make room for them.

It's unknown how much more money the hotel owner Adrian Shannagher has received but he has stated that locals should not be entitled to consultation over the number or type of asylum seekers being accommodated at his hotel.

One woman carried a sign reading 'Respect our Women. No harassment. Respect our town.' Earlier in the week an ad for self-defence classes was hung in front of the hotel.
